Reminds me in one of the major South Vietnam elections (I think it was one with Ngo Dinh Diem), where the CIA was advising the South Vietnamese faction they were aiding in election fraud, that the margin they fraudulently won by shouldn’t be too large or small (like in the 60% range, to give them a mandate that looked realistic), but the South Vietnamese were, like, ‘nah, we think 98% sounds about right for what our people would likely vote if it weren’t for those subversive communists’ and ran with it against the CIA’s wishes.
