I've always gotten into planning/throwing Halloween parties (for 'grownups') and seeing everyone show up for uniquely good times. What a pisser that this year, 10.31 actually falls on a Saturday *and* coincides with a full moon. Even with masks and costumes, my GF and I won't be hosting a party this year. We're still discussing the logistics of if there could be some way to at least accommodate the trick or treat kids, but this will likely be the *first* year without Jack o' lanterns on our porch, vintage Beistle decorations and our extensive playlist of Halloween-themed hard rock blasting out. I went food shopping yesterday with my toddler and was on the phone with my wife, didn’t even think about what I was doing and walked into the store without my mask. A guy working deli, stopped me and told me to put a mask on. I was mortified that I forgot, just got distracted. When I reentered (masked) I found the manager and told her how happy I was that that worker was brave enough to confront me and he did a good job. She thanked me and started telling me how they get into almost daily confrontations with people pissed off about their mask requirement. Said she had to call the cops a couple of times. I work at a resort in the desert. Young fucks and old fucks alike clamber over each other to get a place in the pool. Fourty people an hour, maskless, in eighty degree water, water running out of their mouths and noses, while they drink and play in the pool. Between fifteen hundred and two thousand a week. This work assignment here has taught me one thing: we're fucked, my fellow Americans. Same. Everything is so politicized here. People can get away with long term problems such as global warming or inconsequential stuff like flat earth, but if you try it on a short term serious problem like Corona, then you’ll see growing deaths. Smart people know what they don’t know and try to learn. Dumb people think they’re smarter than everyone else and have blind belief. I don't think intelligence is as much a problem as the lack of empathy is. You can be dumb as hell, but if you care about people you are going to take precautions regardless. Such a simple sentiment but it absolutely broke my heart to see it written out. I will never understand the people out there saying, "it only kills 1%". Even if their statements were true, do those lives not matter? We don't all have the privilege of saving lives everyday but in this moment we can wear a face mask and do just that. I will continue to stay home and only go out for esssntials because I refuse to be part of the chain that has killed 294,000 Americans and almost 1,000,000 people worldwide. Stores of all kinds don't / won't enforce (understandably) and every time I have ridden with my son to just get out of the house at least half if not 3/4 of the people going in and out of these stores are maskless. Even places like our local Walmart who do enforce (at least at the door) my son has said over half either take masks completely off or push them down. My son and I are the only ones in our neighborhood who wear masks and that includes my oldest daughter and three of my grandchildren not wearing them unless forced (school and work).  Buy it:  Cute Ruth Bader Ginsburg I Dissent Shirt
